Also known as Stab Binding, tutor Isabel Carmona introduced us to this versatile method of bookbinding which enables papers of different weights, colours and types to be bound together. By varying the thread used to bind the pages together, very decorative type of books can be created with this technique. Participants made two sample book forms and thoroughly enjoyed their morning.
If you have never explored Hampshire Open Studios before you will be in for a treat if you try it this year. It’s amazing to see the range and wealth of artistic talent that we have in our county. The brochures are out now and You can pick one up FREE from us so you can plan an itinerary for visiting. We ourselves will be hosting Andover Arts & Crafts during this period and are Venue 141 in the brochure.
Participants enjoyed our Botanical Art workshop earlier this week, so much so that we have been asked to arrange another workshop with artist Sally Pond. The next workshop is on Thursday 3rd August. But don’t worry if you missed the first one, Sally is happy to take on beginners as well as returners in this new workshop. The concentration required is an antidote to a busy stressful life. Sitting down to really see the beauty of a flower and translate that onto paper with pencil and watercolour is a form of meditation and very addictive. The workshop runs from 10am to 1pm and costs £35.
We are delighted to welcome Coastal Creativity to our list of craft artists in the Gallery. Catherine Coffin creates beautiful timeless silver jewellery inspired by her life long love of the coast and the sea. Catherine has been working with silver for over 20 years and finds her creative satisfaction in the process of creating a work of art from sheet and wire; hammering, beating, drilling, heating and polishing until she has made something of lasting beauty.
Our new exhibition by Renate West & Liz Dell has opened. Renate explores her emotional response to experiences and places in her paintings which are full of vibrant colour and expressive mark making. Liz creates images primarily out of paper, which she cuts and burns, but she also incorporates found objects into her unique pictures. A very visually interesting exhibition so do pop up and have a look. On until 3rd June.
We are delighted to be working with artist Sally Pond to offer a workshop in Botanical Art on Thursday 29th June. It is hoped that we can make these regular classes if interest is there. Sally graduated from the Botanical Painting Diploma Course at the at the Chelsea Physic Garden with distinction in 2011 and has been teaching in Salisbury and Beaconsfield ever since. Since then She has been awarded three silver-gilt medals from the RHS and two Certificates of Botanical Merit and a commendation for composition from the SBA. She exhibits her work regularly in London and Salisbury. See our workshop page for more details.
Just a quick post to wish all our artists, customers and friends a Happy Easter. We will be closed on Good Friday, open on Saturday, closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Open again on Wednesday 19th April 2017.
We were delighted to be able to donate the sum of £1,120.00 to Andover Young Carers as a result of sales of the pictures submitted to our Open Art Competition. Many many thanks to those who entered the competition and donated their work, to those who donated prizes and of course to those who purchased the resulting works. Without your support we would not have been able to achieve this remarkable total.
This coming Tuesday we will be closed. Just for the one day as we are having some maintenance work done. We are open tomorrow and we will be open again on Wednesday it is just Tuesday we are closed. The Tearoom is also closed that particular day. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
I have been a bit remiss about posting here. Must do better in 2017. Our Open Art Exhibition on behalf of Andover Young Carers has been going brilliantly. We had 54 entries, so a huge thank you to all those who entered the competition and donated their work. The Exhibition is entering its final week, finishing on 25th Feb so if you have not been over for a look, please do before it closes. A gallery of entries is being uploaded.
